Bradley Barcola has dropped a bombshell on the transfer market. The 23-year-old has officially rejected a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, and Arsenal are circling. But can the Premier League champions beat Liverpool to his signature?

Why Barcola Walked Away From PSG
It wasn’t about money. L’Equipe reports that PSG offered Barcola a substantial pay rise to extend beyond his current 2028 deal. He said no.
The issue? Playing time. Or rather, the lack of it.
Since Khvicha Kvaratskhelia arrived in January 2025, Barcola found himself reduced to a bit-part role under Luis Enrique. He started on the bench for both of PSG’s Champions League final victories. That’s a tough pill for any ambitious 23-year-old to swallow.
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news on July 26, posting that Barcola “will NOT sign new deal at Paris Saint-Germain” and is “open to exploring a move this summer.”
French pundit Elton Mokolo disagrees with the decision. He told the Winamax show: “Leaving PSG would be a monumental mistake for Bradley Barcola.”
Mistake or not, the door is now wide open.
Where Arsenal Stand in the Race
Arsenal’s interest in Barcola isn’t new. It’s been bubbling for months. But the situation escalated dramatically after Chelsea hijacked their move for Morgan Rogers, paying a British-record £117m to land the Aston Villa star.
That left Mikel Arteta scrambling for alternatives. And Barcola quickly rose to the top of the list.
Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth put it plainly: “Barcola is someone to look out for.” He added that PSG could let the winger leave if the right offer materialises, especially with the Parisian club chasing RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande as a replacement.
The Athletic reports that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta is actively monitoring Barcola’s situation. Berta is known for lining up three or four options per position, and the Frenchman is firmly on his shortlist.
But there’s a catch. Arsenal haven’t made formal contact yet.
CaughtOffside’s Fabrizio Romano revealed there have been “no fresh contacts” between Arsenal and either Barcola’s camp or PSG following the Rogers setback. That hesitation could prove costly.
Liverpool Loom Large
Here’s where it gets tricky for Arsenal fans. Liverpool aren’t just interested. They’re leading the race.
According to Foot Mercato, Barcola’s preference is Anfield. He’s reportedly attracted by the club’s sporting project under new manager Andoni Iraola. Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs adds that Barcola has “given priority to Liverpool if they can get a deal done with PSG.”
Liverpool need him too. After losing Mohamed Salah and seeing primary target Yan Diomande choose Real Madrid, the Reds are desperate for attacking reinforcements.
Still, nothing is done. PSG’s asking price remains a serious obstacle.
Reports vary wildly on the fee. L’Equipe initially placed it at €150m, which would make Barcola the third-most expensive player in history. More recent reports from Get French Football News suggest PSG have softened to around €120m. Ben Jacobs claims PSG are now quoting €170m.
Whatever the final figure, it won’t be cheap.
So what does Barcola actually bring? Plenty:
- 39 goals and 37 assists in 152 PSG appearances
- 3 goals and 1 assist at the 2026 World Cup with France
- Back-to-back Champions League winner’s medals
- Elite pace, technical ability, and versatility across the front line
Arsenal have already signed Illan Meslier, Piero Hincapie, and Christos Tzolis this summer. But none of them address the club’s need for a top-level left winger.
Barcola does. He’s exactly the profile Arteta wants. The question is whether Arsenal are willing to go toe-to-toe with Liverpool on a deal that could exceed £100m.
Chelsea have already been turned down by Barcola. Bayern Munich reportedly got the same treatment. If Arsenal don’t move soon, Liverpool could lock this one up.
