Arsenal’s New Away Kit Brings Back the Bruised Banana and Fans Are Losing It

Arsenal Launch Bruised Banana 2026-27 Away Kit

Arsenal don’t just want to defend their Premier League title. They want to do it in style.

The Gunners and adidas have officially dropped the club’s 2026-27 away kit, and it’s a love letter to one of football’s most celebrated designs. Inspired by the legendary “Bruised Banana” jersey from 1991-93, this navy strip blends retro cool with modern purpose.

It’s bold. It’s nostalgic. And it’s already flying off the shelves.

Why the Bruised Banana Still Matters

Let’s rewind. The original Bruised Banana was adidas at its most daring. A bright yellow base slashed with sharp black zig-zag graphics — it looked like nothing else in English football at the time. Some fans hated it. Plenty more fell head over heels.

Worn by legends like Ian Wright, Tony Adams, and David Rocastle, the kit became inseparable from a defining era at Highbury. Arsenal claimed a domestic cup double during those years, and the shirt turned into a visual shorthand for grit and North London pride.

Its cult status only grew after retirement. The 2019-20 reissue sold out almost instantly. Originals now fetch upwards of £350 on the collector market. It isn’t just a kit — it’s a cultural artefact.

So why revisit it now? Because Arsenal are champions again, and the timing couldn’t be more fitting.

What the New Kit Looks Like

This isn’t a straight copy. adidas have described it as a “reverse” interpretation of the 1991-93 classic. Here’s what’s different:

  • The base colour is collegiate navy rather than yellow.
  • An engineered geometric graphic reimagines the original zig-zag pattern in navy and yellow tones.
  • Red and yellow accents appear on the Trefoil crew-neck collar.
  • The retro adidas Trefoil logo replaces the modern three-bar mark.
  • adidas CLIMACOOL+ technology handles moisture management and ventilation under the hood.

Matching navy shorts and socks with coordinated red and yellow trim complete the look. The full kit is available now through Arsenal club stores, adidas retail outlets, Arsenal Direct, and the adidas online shop. Replica shirts are expected to retail between £80-£85, with authentic player versions priced at £105-£120.

Champions Ready to Write a New Chapter

The kit launch comes at the perfect moment. Arsenal ended a 22-year wait for the Premier League title last season, winning 25 of 37 league matches and conceding the fewest goals in the division. David Raya picked up a third consecutive Golden Glove with 19 clean sheets.

Now Mikel Arteta’s squad heads into 2026-27 hungry for more.

Riccardo Calafiori, who modelled the kit alongside Ian Wright, Declan Rice, Chloe Kelly, and rapper Little Simz, didn’t hide his excitement: “We know the impact that the Bruised Banana has had on our supporters. You only have to see how many still wear it today to understand how much it means to the club.”

He added: “It’s our turn to create our own legacy. We’ve enjoyed so many amazing moments with our supporters but we’re hungry for more.”

Can a jersey carry that kind of weight? Maybe not on its own. But when you pair an iconic design with a squad that’s finally broken through, the symbolism writes itself.

The Bruised Banana isn’t just back. It’s back on the shoulders of champions.
