The Turkish champions have fired the opening shot. Galatasaray have submitted an official €40 million bid for Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli, according to journalist Haluk Yurekli. It’s a bold move, but is it enough to prise the Brazilian away from the Premier League champions?
Probably not. At least, not at that price.
Arsenal have reportedly set their asking price in the region of €45–50 million. That leaves a gap Galatasaray will need to bridge if they’re serious about getting this one over the line. And while the bid falls short, it does something important: it puts real money on the table and forces Arsenal into a decision.
Why Galatasaray Want Martinelli
This isn’t a random punt from Istanbul. Galatasaray have been circling Martinelli for weeks.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Turkish club originally targeted AC Milan’s Rafael Leao as their marquee left-wing signing. But those negotiations stalled, with Milan reportedly demanding around £43 million and Galatasaray’s offer coming in well below that figure. Martinelli quickly became the preferred alternative.
Nicolo Schira then reported that Galatasaray had opened official negotiations with Arsenal. La Liga and Serie A clubs — including Roma, Juventus, and Atletico Madrid — have also shown interest, creating a queue of suitors.
So what can Galatasaray offer that north London can’t?

Martinelli’s contract runs until 2027, with an option to extend to 2028. Arsenal hold the cards here. There’s no urgency to sell, but there’s also no reason to keep a player who doesn’t fit the long-term plan at a discount.

The €40 million bid will almost certainly be rejected. Arsenal want more. But this is how transfer windows work — opening offers rarely close deals.
Further negotiations are expected. Galatasaray have the financial muscle to increase their offer, and their interest appears genuine. Whether they can reach Arsenal’s valuation is the central question.
Martinelli is currently training with the Arsenal squad during pre-season and has featured in recent friendlies. He’s not agitating for a move. But if the right fee arrives and a suitable replacement is secured, Arsenal won’t stand in his way.
