Vinicius Jr to Arsenal: Real Madrid Contract Standoff Opens Door for Gunners

Arsenal eye Vinicius Jr as top left-wing target after Chelsea hijack Morgan Rogers deal. Latest on Real Madrid contract talks and Gunners' plans.

Arsenal Eye Vinicius Jr, Barcola After Chelsea Steal Morgan Rogers

After Chelsea swooped in to steal Morgan Rogers from under their noses, Arsenal’s summer plans on the left flank need a serious rethink. And suddenly, the most ambitious name on Mikel Arteta’s shortlist feels less like a fantasy and more like a necessity.

Vinicius Junior sits at the top of Arsenal’s list of left-wing targets. That’s not speculation for fun. It’s a reflection of where things stand at Real Madrid — and how desperate the Gunners are to fix a problem that cost them momentum all last season.

The Rogers Blow Changes Everything

Arsenal made Morgan Rogers their No. 1 forward target this summer. That’s not a secret. Sky Sports, The Athletic, and every reliable outlet confirmed it. The plan was straightforward: wait for England’s World Cup campaign to end, then wrap up a deal with Aston Villa.

Chelsea had other ideas.

A British-record £117 million bid landed on Villa’s desk over the weekend. Rogers agreed to a six-year deal at Stamford Bridge. Arsenal never got the chance to make their move.

That stings. Rogers offered exactly what Arteta wanted:

  • Premier League-proven quality on the left
  • Versatility across the front line
  • Homegrown status
  • Age-profile fit at just 23

With Leandro Trossard already heading to Besiktas and Gabriel Martinelli’s form declining sharply last season, Arsenal can’t afford to wait around. They’ve already agreed a deal worth around £35 million for Club Brugge’s Christos Tzolis. He’s a solid signing — 17 goals and 23 assists in the Belgian league last term earned him Player of the Season.

But Tzolis alone isn’t enough if Arsenal want to defend their Premier League title.

Why Vinicius Jr Is More Than a Pipe Dream

Here’s what makes this different from a typical “big club linked with big player” story.

Vinicius Junior’s contract with Real Madrid expires in June 2027. He’s rejected at least one renewal offer. The gap between what he wants (reportedly around €30 million net per year) and what Madrid are offering (€20 million) remains wide. A high-stakes meeting between his camp and the Madrid board is scheduled for late July.

If those talks collapse? Madrid won’t let him walk for free. They’ll sell.

According to TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey, Arsenal are among the clubs already informed of Vinicius’ potential availability. Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich have all been contacted too.

So the competition is fierce. But think about what Vinicius would bring to this Arsenal team.

Last season he delivered 22 goals and 10 assists across all competitions despite Madrid’s worst campaign in years. He averaged 2.5 dribbles and won six duels per game. At 25, he’s entering his absolute peak.

Would he come? That’s the question nobody can answer yet. His reported wage demands — somewhere north of £400,000 per week — would shatter Arsenal’s salary structure. And Spanish sources insist he still wants to stay at the Bernabeu if the money is right.

What Happens Next for Arsenal

Bradley Barcola from PSG remains on Arteta’s radar too. Liverpool are also interested, and PSG have previously resisted approaches from Arsenal, Chelsea, and Bayern. But if a strong enough offer arrives — reports suggest north of £100 million — Paris could budge.

Then there’s Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid. He’s been a long-standing target, though Atleti aren’t keen to sell.

The reality? Arsenal have options but no guarantees.

The Tzolis deal gives Arteta a reliable left-winger to start the season. But the club clearly wants a marquee addition alongside him. The Rogers setback makes that ambition more urgent, not less.

Keep an eye on those late-July Vinicius Jr talks in Madrid. If they fall apart, the dominoes could fall fast. And Arsenal will be right there, ready to pounce.
