According to FootballTransfers, citing The Times, Arsenal have now opened formal talks with Newcastle. A second bid worth more than €80m (roughly £68m) is reportedly being prepared. But as of mid-July, that crucial direct engagement between the clubs was still missing.
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s summer window has been painfully quiet. Their top target, Morgan Rogers, was snatched by Chelsea in a record-breaking £117m deal from Aston Villa. Their only completed business? Illan Meslier on a free transfer from Leeds and making Piero Hincapie’s loan permanent.
For a club that just won the Premier League and reached the Champions League final, that’s a thin haul so far.
