Paul Scholes Snubs Arsenal to name team that will win the Premier League title this season

Paul Scholes has thrown cold water on Arsenal’s title charge, insisting Manchester City are still the team to beat this season.

Despite Arsenal sitting top of the table with 26 points from 11 games, Scholes believes Pep Guardiola’s men remain one step ahead thanks to their experience and winning mentality.

City’s ruthless 3-0 demolition of Liverpool over the weekend reignited their title defence, and Scholes reckons that was the turning point.

I think they’re slightly still favourites ahead of Arsenal, because of what they’ve done,” Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast.

I know Arsenal are four points clear, but with the experience they’ve got and Arsenal haven’t. You have to put them [City] slightly ahead of them.”

The ex-United star admitted he hadn’t been overly impressed with City this season, until now.

2023/24 PL Champions

I haven’t been impressed by City that much, but yesterday [against Liverpool], I thought for the first time they’re going to be [challengers],” he added.

Arsenal’s recent 2-2 draw with Sunderland has given City the chance to close in, and with Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku on fire, Guardiola’s side look deadly again.

The Gunners face a tough run, starting with the North London derby against Tottenham on November 23, a fixture that could define their title credentials.

Arsenal legend Martin Keown, however, isn’t buying into the hype around City’s surge.

Arsenal just need to keep winning their games,” Keown told talkSPORT.
They’ve not done an awful lot wrong, they’re top of the Premier League table and the Champions League table as well.”

With the gap closing fast and City back in their groove, Scholes may just have a point, Arsenal’s grip on the top spot could be slipping sooner than they think.
