Martin Keown Voices Concerns Over Spurs Game Due To Spurs Away Form

As the North London Derby approaches, former Arsenal defender Martin Keown has delivered a measured but confident assessment of what awaits the Gunners this weekend, pinpointing Tottenham’s impressive away form as a key threat, while expressing optimism that Arsenal’s defensive issues could ease just in time.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Keown highlighted the stark contrast between Spurs’ home and away performances this season.

What concerns me this weekend is Spurs’ away form. Spurs at home it’s like two different entities,” he said, noting how Ange Postecoglou’s side seem to transform when they leave north London.

At home it’s like one win in five and I think they’ve won four out of five away from home. Their manager is very good at slowing things down, just quietening the crowd and the keeper just puts his foot on the ball.”

Keown explained that Tottenham’s calmness and control on the road make them a difficult opponent, one that Arsenal must disrupt early.

I’ve had a little look this week to see what they do away from home and they do it really well. Arsenal are going to have to go in and press high and look to dominate the game.”

Despite acknowledging the tactical danger Spurs pose, Keown struck a more hopeful tone when speaking about Arsenal’s injury situation, particularly the possibility of Gabriel Magalhães returning earlier than expected.

The Brazilian centre-back has been a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s defence, and his absence had raised concerns among supporters.

But Keown believes there could be a timely boost.

It’s not ideal but I think Gabriel might make it and if he does, I think Arsenal deserve that little bit of luck.”

Keown stressed that while injuries have disrupted Arsenal’s season at various points, the squad’s unity and depth have been defining factors in keeping them competitive.

It’s not about any one player this year and injuries, it’s about the collective group,” he added, emphasizing that Arsenal’s resilience stretches beyond its star names.

Should Gabriel be unavailable, Keown pointed to young defender Mosquera as the next man up.

If someone else is injured Mosquera will have to come in and do a magnificent job because Gabriel and Saliba are the best partnership in Europe, never mind in the building.”

For Keown, the message is clear: Arsenal must combine tactical aggression with collective strength, and hope for a stroke of luck, to overcome a Spurs side that thrives away from home. With both sides battling at the top end of the table, the stage is set for an intense, high-stakes derby that could define the momentum of their seasons.
